Bromeliads are a tropical plant generally grown outdoors since they thrive in hot, humid, wet, sunny and shady environments. Some can grow in full sun but most prefer filtered sun/shade. If you live in a colder climate then growing bromeliads in containers is an easy way to bring them in from the cold since they will not survive a frost. Bromeliads need ample watering since their center cup needs to be full but will rot if their roots remain in standing water for too long. Think of the saying 'the cup runneth over' with bromeliads, as their cup needs to be flushed out with new water about every other week or when you see the water is getting gunky. Please visit http://www.bromeliads.info/general-indoor-outdoor-bromeliad-care/ for a more in depth coverage on bromeliad care.
One of my favorite bromeliads is the 'voodoo doll' bromeliad. This is a neoregelia type of bromeliad grown in part sun/part shade that can grow up to 20 inches wide x 14 inches high. 'Voodoo doll' has a deep rich burgundy/red/pink color to it that just gets more intense as it grows with minimal to no teeth on the leaf edges. Because of the darker red color in its color form, 'voodoo doll' can take a little bit more sun and will have darker red variations due to it. With more shade it will have more brighter pink variations in it. A true show stopper!
'Voodoo doll' is sold in either a 6-inch pot approx. 6-8 inches wide x 8 inches high or an 8-inch pot approx. 12 inches wide x 10 inches high . When you receive the bromeliad you will need to water it right away since we ship them with a dry center cup. Because it is a living plant we expedite shipping to make sure the plant arrives healthy and alive. Please read the section about our plants on our FAQs page for more information.
