This gem of a fern is a unique addition to your garden!  This is the regal red Japanese fern or Athyrium niponicum 'Regal Red'.  Even though I have one that actually gets 4 hours of full south Florida sun in the morning, the regal red Japanese fern grows best in filtered sun or part sun/part shade with moist soil environments.  It can grow up to 18-24 inches high and spread out to about 18-24 inches wide.  It's versatility can be grown in the landscape and/or in a container.  It does have a reddish/purple central vein but I have no idea why it's called 'regal red' because it grows into this really a cool purple with greenish/silverish fronds, quite a stunner!   Grows outdoors in zones 4-9 but as proven here at Twisted Trunk it can be grown in zones 10-11.

Our regal red Japanese fern is currently sold in a 1-gallon pot and is currently about 14 inches wide x 12-14 inches high.   Because it is a living plant we expedite shipping to make sure the plant arrives healthy and alive.  Please read the section about our plants on our FAQs page for more information.
