Philodendron 'Black Cardinal' is a relatively easy philodendron to grow and can be grown either indoors or outside in warm climates.  Use this beauty either in a planter pot or directly in the landscape.  'Black Cardinal' grows in a variety of light except direct sunlight if outdoors; prefers filtered sun or bright indirect sun and moist soil with periods of dry.  This aroid produces new gorgeous deeply rich pinkish-cabernet sauvignon colored leaf that can be as dark as an intensely dark red bruise on your leg.   The older leaves can grow out to a reddish-green-bronze blush if grown in low light.  It seems the brighter light the darker the color.   Even on the underside of the leaf.   It grows in a compact rosette pattern and gets larger as it ages...kinda like my tushy but hey enough about me.  It's a gorgeous philodendron with true color throughout the leaf.  Grows in zone 8-11 and are not frost hardy.
 
Though be aware for all you pet owners and parents to check whether any plant has poisonous elements to it before introducing it as a house plant. The philodendron family is considered poisonous if parts of the actual plant are ingested.
