Banana's are a tropical plant that usually do not survive cold temperatures but this banana (musa basjoo or Japanese fiber banana) can actually survive temperatures below freezing if mulched properly. This banana variety is considered an ornamental and though it produces fruit they are inedible. Basjoo's can grow up to about 12 ft and are a nice clumping variety. Bananas can either be grown directly in the ground or grow in a pot too, perfect for small spaces. This is a great tropical addition to your northern or southern landscape!
Currently our banana 'basjoo's are in a 1-gallon pot; around 18-24 inches high. Grows outdoors in zone 4-10; frost hardy.
Because it is a living plant we expedite shipping to make sure the plant arrives healthy and alive. Please read the section about our plants on our FAQs page for more information.
Though be aware for all you pet owners and parents to check whether any plant has poisonous elements to it before introducing it as a house plant because we are animal lovers and parents as well.
