Bromeliads are a tropical plant generally grown outdoors since they thrive in hot, humid, wet, sunny and shady environments.  Some can grow in full sun but most prefer filtered sun/shade.  If you live in a colder climate then growing bromeliads in containers is an easy way to bring them in from the cold since they will not survive a frost.  Bromeliads need ample watering since their center cup needs to be full but will rot if their roots remain in standing water for too long.  Think of the saying 'the cup runneth over' with bromeliads, as their cup needs to be flushed out with new water about every other week or when you see the water is getting gunky.  Please visit for a more in depth coverage on bromeliad care.  Please read the section about our plants on our FAQs page for more information.
