I absolutely love this plant and use it all the time when designing landscapes here in south Florida.  Please meet Pseuderanthemum atropurpureum or pseuderanthemum 'purple haze'. it does not have a common name per say but nontheless this another one-of-a-kind plant we have available here at Twisted Trunk.  This is an absolutely gorgeous tropical shrub!  The leaves are a deep purple color with subtle mottled coloring in the leaf.  At different times of the year  and/or if planted in a shadier location, the subtle mottling in the leaves can become a variegated look with greens/silvers/ivory.  You can see how the intense colors of 'purple haze' are a beautiful contrast to the other plants in our landscapes pictured above.  'Purple haze' has a deep magenta pink flower that smells like sweet gardenia.  It grows to be about 6-8 ft high and 3-5 ft wide.  It grows straight up from the bottom of the plant until you trim the stem then the plant will flush out with multiple new growths creating a fuller (albeit more top-heavy) look.   When I cut 'purple haze' I tend to stagger the cutting so the plant has a natural feel and becomes nice and full from bottom to top.   This plant is originally from the Pacific Island areas of Polynesia  and has since naturalized itself on the Hawaiian Islands so you know it's a hardy plant.  Likes warm weather, grows in full sun to part shade.  'Purple haze' can be used for a privacy hedge, an accent plant or even as a container plant.

Currently our pseuderanthemum atropurpureum 'purple haze' are sold in a 3-gallon pot and are about 3 - 4 ft high x 1 1/2 - 2 ft wide.   Grows in zones 8-11; could be mild cold hardy but not frost hardy.

Because it is a living plant we expedite shipping to make sure the plant arrives healthy and alive.   Please read the section about our plants on our FAQs page for more information.
