Artisans in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana weave these beautiful and durable shoppers from thick, tough elephant grass.  Hand carved wooden handles feature the Gye Nyame symbol from the Adinkra lexicon, which means, "except God",  a reference to the relationship of man to a higher power.
